Few things can help an individual more than to place responsibility upon him, and to let him know that you trust him.

Trust can be formative, not merely flattering. Responsibility often calls strength forward that comfort leaves dormant. Washington sees development as relational as well as individual. People frequently rise when expectations become concrete and dignified rather than vague and sentimental. The line remains useful for leadership and education alike. Accountability and confidence are stronger together than apart.
