Without Walls

Inner disorder leaves a person exposed. What is not governed within becomes vu lnerable from every side. The image is memorable because it is architectural. Self-command is pictured not as repression, but as a form of protection that keeps the whole life from lying open to invasion. The proverb still feels severe because it speaks plainly. Discipline is not cosmetic here. It is structural.
