Temporary weather has a way of pretending it is the whole sky. It rarely is.
This line does not dismiss sorrow. It simply refuses to grant sorrow final authority over what is still true beyond present visibility.
Longfellow's comfort is credible because it stays close to nature. The image is gentle, but it carries real endurance.
