Inspiration is supposed to awaken responsibility, not envy. Their example is proof that your life can carry weight too.
Admiration becomes useful when it turns into imitation at the level of character, courage, and effort. Otherwise it stays entertainment.
Longfellow uses great lives as summons, not spectacle. The line matters because it shifts history from something to watch into something to answer.
