Work is a better servant than master. Once it begins ruling the person, something has gone out of order.
Franklin is not advising laziness here, but governance. The disciplined life does not merely labor hard. It keeps command over what its labor is for and how far it is allowed to reach.
The line still lands because modern work easily becomes a form of captivity. Stewardship matters as much as effort.
